• DWI Assessments

If you have been convicted of a DWI (Driving While Impaired), you must undergo a substance use assessment in order to get your driver’s license re-instated.  You must also complete either an education program or treatment program, whichever is recommended as a result of the assessment.  If you fail to submit to a breath test, or if you registered over 0.14%, you will be required to complete a treatment program.  Assessments follow the American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria to determine your needs.  If you are not given a substance use disorder diagnosis, you will be referred to an education program.

All assessments must be conducted by an authorized DWI provider.  Your assessment will be completed by a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, who is licensed by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.

In order to be assessed, please provide:

    1. Your ticket
    2. A copy of your driving record
    3. A copy of your Breathalyzer results
    4. Your attorney’s name and phone number

The cost of NC DWI Assessments is $100.  The $100 fee is established by the Legislature of the State of NC.  No agency in the state of NC is allowed by law to charge more or less than the $100 fee.  The full fee is to be collected at the time of the assessment.

All persons in need of receiving a substance abuse assessment and substance abuse education or treatment have the right to choose their service provider.
